Chapter 14

Stanley Craddock is currently incarcerated at Greensville Correctional Center. He is scheduled to be released in 2014. He recently discovered the identity of his birth mother (now deceased) and learned that he has several brothers and sisters in Richmond. His real name is Maurice Jackson.

Naji Mujahid was recently released from Indian Creek Correctional Center in Chesapeake and is living in Arizona with his wife and the grandmother who terrorized him as a child. She is bed-ridden, suffering from Alzheimer’s and cancer. He is studying to become a substance abuse counselor.

Chuck Hicks was released from Fairfax Adult Detention Center in 2007 and is living in his hometown of Danville, Virginia, where he manages a local restaurant, remains active in the recovery community, and enjoys spending time with his sister and her family.

Dean Turner was released from Richmond City Jail in 2006. He has worked off and on in the restaurant industry and is living with his grandmother in Richmond. He is the author of A Major Struggle, part one of his autobiography project, soon to be self-published.

Kelvin Belton was released from prison in 2008 and found work immediately as a roofer. Currently, he works full-time as a janitor and spends much of his free time in the organized basketball leagues of Richmond.

Andre Simpson was incarcerated in 2005 when he got into a car that, unbeknownst to him, had been involved in over two dozen violent burglaries. When the driver fled from the police and eventually totaled the car, she and her accomplices fled the scene, leaving Andre confused, his hands in the air. In three separate jury trials spread over four years—including two where he defended himself—he was found not guilty of all the charges. He remains incarcerated at Halifax Correctional Unit where he is waiting for the parole board to review his case.

Brad Greene, who turned himself in to the police at the apex of his drug addiction, was released in 2008 to live with his ex-wife’s family in southern Virginia so that he could be near his children. He now lives in northern Virginia and works with his father in the construction industry.

Ronald Fountain was released in 2007 and soon graduated from McDonalds University. He has worked at three different branches of McDonalds in Richmond, including some time as a manager. He remains a steady force in the recovery community.

Tony Martin is scheduled to be released from Indian Creek Correctional Center in October of 2009. He gets regular visits from his family and looks forward to spreading the Good News to addicts and hustlers beyond the prison walls.

Greg Carter was released from prison in 2008 and is living with his mother. He works in the restaurant business part time and is the new owner of a car detailing and power washing business.

Kyle Brown was released in February of 2009 from Indian Creek Correctional Center. Incarcerated at sixteen, he left prison at age twenty three and is now living with his aunt and uncle in Ohio, making plans to attend college.

Terence Scruggs was released from prison in 2007 and is living with his girlfriend, who he met at his first job. He is gearing up to launch a new business, a non profit to aid ex-offenders in their reentry.

David Coogan is currently teaching a second workshop in autobiography at the jail, but with a couple of twists. This one is for women offenders, and women from the university are taking the workshop with them.
